Shaun Usher is back and has once again compiled a wonderful collection of texts in DIARIES OF NOTE for us. This time, it's diary entries from prominent figures in art, music, science, and politics, such as Mark Twain, Charles Darwin, Nelson Mandela, Franz Kafka, Andy Warhol, and many, many more.

The German-language edition, featuring numerous photographs and reproductions of the original letters, is published by Kunstmann Verlag, which writes the following about it:

"What could be more intimate than a diary?

Throughout history, people have kept their unadulterated truths, their yearning hopes, their hidden desires, and their deepest fears in them. In 'Diaries of Note,' Shaun Usher has compiled 366 captivating diary entries from human history, one for each day of the year. We encounter the personal writings of world leaders, artists, scientists, writers, and icons of film and music—including Albert Einstein, Virginia Woolf, Emma Thompson, Teddy Roosevelt, Maya Angelou, and Louis Theroux—alongside those who were never in the limelight, yet whose writings reveal them as extraordinary individuals.

This beautifully illustrated book is a testament to the power of personal narratives to reflect and capture our deepest and often most secret emotions."

I couldn't agree more. It was a great pleasure for me to contribute to this project as one of the many translators. A book for every day of the (leap) year, with 366 diary entries—some amusing, some informative, some thought-provoking, and all of them moving. A perfect gift for your loved ones or yourself.
